Why I Created Ultimate Lines
Early in my field trial career, I struggled to achieve the quality of initial lines I wanted on blinds. Traditional drills such as the Wagon Wheel and W-Drill were helpful, but they were not producing the consistent results I was seeking.
My goal was to compete with the best, and a marginal 30- to 40-yard initial line simply wasn't good enough. After taking an objective look at my failures, I concluded that a dog must be able to look out to a distant destination, trust the handler's guidance, and confidently carry the line provided. To be exceptional, the dog must also resist the factors and suction that naturally pull it away from that line.
That realization led to the concept of using diminishing visual markers and carefully applied suction to influence behavior. The challenge then became developing a logical, systematic progression that would teach those skills and prepare dogs for success in advanced blind work.
Ultimate Lines is the result of that effort.

Frank Price is the founder of Advanced Training Made Simple and has trained and handled retrievers successfully in field trials and hunt tests for more than 20 years. His accomplishments include FC, AFC, GRHRCH, and MH titled dogs, multiple National Derby List dogs, and several Qualified All-Age dogs. Among his most notable accomplishments are FC AFC Wing Magic's Louisiana Roux MH, GRHRCH Boot, and FC AFC Bayou Magic's Fannie Quigley, the 2021 Purina High Point Derby Dog.
